Artist's Statement
Currently I am focusing on a series of sculptures based upon my grandmother's stories of her escape from the Pogroms in Russia. I have completed eleven sculptures in that series. Four of those works are on this Web page. Rather than producing decorative art, my primary interest in sculpting is the portrayal of emotion and conflict through the human figure. I hope that through my sculptures, and with my grandmother's stories, I can express the harrowing experience of her escape from the Pogroms in Russia and the ultimate triumph of her arrival in America.
Artist's Bio
I have been sculpting for the last 35 years. I studied art at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana; Yale Art School in New Haven, Ct.; Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi, India. Though I have been sculpting throughout my adult life, I continue to take sculpture classes as often as possible. I work both from the model and from inspiration. I have taught adults at the Elisabet Ney Sculpture Conservatory (now re-named Austin Sculpture Center) for several years, and children in other venues.
